Stories Through Art
As I mentioned in the About Me section, I like to tell stories about my life and include the art that accompanied those stories. At some point, I hope to have the bandwidth to allow others to share their stories too. For now these are the categories for my Stories through Art:
On the Road – Road trip stories, and the most memorable music and art from them;
Alternate Takes – Alternate takes of popular songs, or other art;
Art I Like – Just what it says;
Jackie’s Journal – Personal stories about my life, along with some poetry and stories I’ve written
Our Stories

Bob Dylan – The Man in Me
This is a Shout Out to “The Dude.” Sending Jeff Bridges heaps of healing energy and gratitude for all the laughter and tears of both joy and sadness over the years. If I had to pick, my favorite character of yours was Jack Lucas in The Fisher King, along side the...

Walt Whitman – A Noiseless Patient Spider
I’d like to share with you one of my favorite poems by Walt Whitman as I think we are all the spider he writes about. For me A Noiseless Patient Spider speaks to that bit (or gaping holes) of emptiness we try to fill with various things. Most of us expend a good bit...

Etta James – Steal Away
I developed a pretty intense appreciation for Motown and R&B early on, and am pretty sure when I was born, 1968, and where and how I grew up – pretty poor in a mostly black neighborhood - had something to do with that. Nineteen sixty-eight was a VERY good year for...

Daniela Andrade – Crazy in Love
It's scary in a good way how accurate YouTube has been lately at recommending songs they think I'll like. This cover of Beyonce's Crazy in Love by Daniela Andrade has me mesmerized:) You'll be seeing more of her videos elsewhere on the site! According to my internet...

Johnny Cash – The Bug that Tried to Crawl Around the World
When I was 9 or 10 years old, I woke up Saturday mornings and watched cartoons (Go Speed Racer, Go Speed Racer, Go Speed Racer, GOOOO-OH!) and listened to albums (or one song over and over) on our beat up old Curtis Mathis. One of my favorite albums in my parents...

Willie Nelson – A Maiden’s Prayer
Have you ever driven down a road so barren and lonely, you start feeling kinda creeped out? Seattle to Atlanta, via the Grand Canyon, was the longest solo road trip I've ever taken. This picture was taken during the Crater Lake to Grand Canyon part of the trip...

Stop! In the Name of a Great Alternate Take
"Childhood is what you spend the rest of your life trying to overcome. That's what momma always says. She says that beginnings are scary, endings are usually sad, but it's the middle that counts the most. Try to remember that when you find yourself at a new beginning....

Torment & Delight on Italy’s Autostrada del Sole
I was driving from Rome towards Venice with my friend Jennifer on Italy's A1, which I learned later is the oldest highway in Europe, when construction dictated one lane of the northbound side be used for southbound traffic. It was awful, and after a while the need to...

Wilco – California Stars
"California Stars" is a song from 1998's Mermaid Avenue Vol. II, a collection of some of Woody Guthrie's previously unrecorded songs that Bob Dylan thought had been promised to him. Fate wasn't having it though, and a little over 20 years after Woody Guthrie's death...

Amy Winehouse – Will You Still Love Me Tomorrow
Learning the stories behind the art I love is one of my favorite things about putting together content for the site. Carol King co-wrote this song with her late ex-husband Gerry Goffin, and recorded it with James Taylor and Joni Mitchell singing backup up for her...
