Learning the stories behind the art I love is one of my favorite things about putting together content for the site. Carol King co-wrote this song with her late ex-husband Gerry Goffin, and recorded it with James Taylor and Joni Mitchell singing backup up for her classic album Tapestry. Her version never fails to stir something in me. The original recording by the Shirelles in 1960 was the first recording by an all black female group to reach #1 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart so this song has really cool historical significance as well.
Amy Winehouse struggled with substance abuse like many have and do. Sadly, we are living during a time when funding for mental health and substance abuse is dwindling. Often times, though not always, there is some underlying mental health issue that leads a person to seek escape through self-medicating to the point of addiction/abuse. We are increasingly disconnected from one another, and many have no familial or financial resources to help. Please check out our HELP page get or give help. Be good to one another and yourselves!
