While I knew the day would come and wrote this poem about it almost two decades ago, it still snuck up on me and threatens to do me in with its seeming suddenness. A few months back, the time came to set my bird free:O
It wasnโt so much a โsetting her freeโ scenario really, but more like a fighting her about moving out, and then helping her find a decent new place when I saw how determined she was about it. Iโm a Taurus, sheโs a Scorpioโฆnot sure you can get harder heads than that!
The last two decades have brought many trials and tribulations for us both, but we made it to this time where she started working (again), graduated from High School (woo hoo!), moved out with a friend into an apartment, AND started college! Luckily, she lives pretty close by๐ Mwah, ha, ha, ha! I had a hand in thatโฆ
So begin my empty nester days! Iโm not gonna lie, itโs been kinda tough, but I tell myself now I will have more time to focus on this site, hopefully make her proud of her mama, and at some point make a living at it! I LOVE YOU ZOE๐งก๐ฆ
Sonnet for Zoรซ
Zoรซ means life, would mine ever be blessed
With a little babe, and her gift of love?
Months then years passed, ’til my little white dove
Emerged from below to suckle my breast.
From the beginning, my heart she caressed
Like the sun beaming down from above
I will never cease to be in awe of
The beauty she brings each day to our nest.
My little muse, she fills my mind’s eye
With wonder, the person she’ll grow to be.
I know our time will fly, begin to cry
Someday I must set my bird free.
But for now I teach her to fly high
And rejoice each time I hear, โMommy.โ
