I’d like to share with you one of my favorite poems by Walt Whitman as I think we are all the spider he writes about. For me A Noiseless Patient Spider speaks to that bit (or gaping holes) of emptiness we try to fill with various things. Most of us expend a good bit of energy throughout our lives in our attempts to feel connected to a special someone, and/or something divine. Sometimes we come up short, or get caught in a tangled web, but we do and must keep trying to connect! We are not solitary creatures us humans. This pandemic is inflicting a great deal of internal damage in the form of loneliness, depression, anxiety, etc. Please try to stay or get connected to others however you can while following recommended protocols to stay safe. Vaccines are on the way, masks aren’t so bad, and neither is Zoom once you get used to it. If you need help, please don’t be afraid or ashamed to ask. Please head over to our HELP page to see if we have resources that may be of assistance.
A Noiseless Patient Spider
Walt Whitman
I mark’d, where, on a little promontory, it stood, isolated;
Mark’d how, to explore the vacant, vast surrounding,
It launch’d forth filament, filament, filament, out of itself;
Ever unreeling them—ever tirelessly speeding them.
And you, O my Soul, where you stand,
Surrounded, surrounded, in measureless oceans of space,
Ceaselessly musing, venturing, throwing – seeking the spheres, to connect them;
Till the bridge you will need, be form’d—till the ductile anchor hold;
Till the gossamer thread you fling, catch somewhere, O my Soul.
